Plans and Challenges. Ambassador of Canada visited Krakow.

On Tuesday, 26th January 2016, the new Ambassador of Canada to Poland HE Stephen de Boer met with Krakow Mayor Jacek Majchrowski. Krakow was one of the first destinations in our country visited by new Canadian Ambassador in Poland.

Ambassador de Boer begun his diplomatic mission in our country just a few weeks ago. He visited Małopolska in order to take part in the official ceremony commemorating the 71. anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. He also paid visits to regional authorities, universities and major institutions.

The discussions with Mayor Majchrowski were focused mainly on the plans to establish cooperation between Krakow and Canadian cities. Krakow does not have  any partner city in that country. Ambassador de Boer would be also interested in developing further business contacts between Canada and Poland, paying special attention to clean technologies that are one of the focal points of our City’s Development Strategy.

World Youth Day 2016 was also subject of conversation. Krakow has been preparing for this unique event for months as it is a great challenge, not only for our City. Ambassador Stephen de Boer informed Mayor Majchrowski that thousands of Canadians have already declared participation  in the WYD 2016. They are attracted not only by the perspective of meeting Pope Francis, but also drawn by the beauty of our City.  In order to prepare the visit of such a large number of visitors from Canada, the Embassy is going to delegate diplomatic staff  to Krakow where they will provide assistance, mainly on consular matters, during WYD 2016.
