Krakow’s Mayor voted President of the OWHC

With the support of almost 100 cities from around the globe, Krakow was elected to the Board of Directors of the Organization of World Heritage Cities and the Mayor of Krakow became the organization’s President. “Thank you for putting your trust in us in Korea and choosing Krakow to host the 15th Congress of the OWHC. Thank you putting your trust in us yet again when you elected Krakow to become a member of the Board of Directors and thank you for the presidency. It is a double honour which fills us with great pride and joy.” emphasized Mayor of Krakow Jacek Majchrowski.

Krakow’s candidacy was presented by the Vice Mayor for Sustainable Development Jerzy Muzyk and Mayor’s Advisor for Culture Robert Piaskowski.

With its choice the international community of heritage cities recognized Krakow’s achievements. It’s a joint success of many local players representing: culture and heritage preservation sector, business, local institutions or NGOs. Krakow will be joined in the Board of Directors by mayors of: Bruges (Belgium), Cusco (Peru), Gyeongju (South Korea), Philadelphia (USA), San Miguel de Allende ( Mexico) and Suzhou (China).

I promise that we will continue to discover the potential of heritage and familiarize our communities with it. We will work together with you all, always remembering that heritage is our common cause. For better or for worse, we are allies in the honorable yet truly challenging task of preserving and developing world heritage cities. I am honoured to do this work with friends like you!” said Mayor Majchrowski during the closing ceremony of the Congress.

The 15th World Congress of the Organization of World Heritage Cities was held in Krakow from June 2nd  to 5th 2019. It was attended by 400 participants from 5  continents. The next OWHC Congress will take place in Quebec (Canada).
