Kraków to host the Assembly of The Lutheran World Federation

Following the successful OWHC Congress, Kraków has yet again gained international acclaim. On June 17th in Geneva, the Lutheran World Federation decided to hold the 2023 event in our city.

The Thirteenth Assembly of The Lutheran World Federation will be hosted in Krakow from 21 to 27 June 2023. by the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession. During the conference in Geneva the Polish delegation headed by Bishop Jerzy Samiec, presented Poland, Małopolska and Kraków.

The idea of hosting the Assembly in Poland originated in 2014 and gained momentum in 2017, when the 500th Jubilee of the Reformed Church was celebrated. The Assembly to be held in Krakow will only be the second congress of LWF’s highest authorities held in the CEE region. The first one held in this part of the world took place in Budapest in 1984.

The Council also appointed an eight-member Assembly Planning Committee (APC) to coordinate the preparations for the assembly in all its various aspects including the theme, worship life, content and visual identity. The Committee members represent all the seven LWF regions, and consist of lay and ordained men, women and youth. The LWF is an international community of 148 churches in the Lutheran tradition, representing over 75.5 million Christians in 99 countries.

The Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland  has over 60,000 members. It is organized in six dioceses headed by bishops, who are assisted by more than 150 pastors across parishes.
