Krakow Mayor Jacek Majchrowski receives the Golden Sun of Ecuador

On Wednesday, January 16th HE Fabian Valdivieso the Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador to Poland decorated the Mayor of Krakow with Sol de Oro (Golden Sun) – the highest order awarded by the Vice-President of Ecuador.

The awarding ceremony took place in the Krakow City Hall during Mayor's official meeting with the Ambassador. The order was awarded in recognition of Mayor Majchrowski's continuous help and promotion of Ecuadorian culture, as well as for his contribution to the cooperation with the city of Quito which proved highly beneficial to the Ecuadorian capital and the entire country. The Mayor's active promotion of Ecuadorian culture in Krakow, his support for the cooperation between architectural heritage conservation officers from Krakow and Quito and his engagement in the exchange of experiences that led to the establishment of Quito's Interacitve Museum were particularly emphasized. The cooperation between Krakow and Quito was initiated when Ecuador's capital received Krakow's Honorary Twin City title in 2008.

Sol de Oro is a significant state order awarded by the Vice-President of Ecuador in recognition of special merit in promoting Ecuador's culture and history. The name of the order refers to an archeological piece created by the representatives of the Tolita culture (400 B.C. - 300 A.D.) and currently deposited in the Archeological Museum in Quito.
