A tartan tram on the streets of Kraków

On 1 January 2018 a tram decorated with Scottish tartan made its first run along Krakow streets. The tartan vehicle will most often appear on the lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 14, 19, and 20. We hope that by the end of 2018 - this is how long the tram is scheduled to operate – everybody will have had the opportunity to enjoy a ride. We also hope that the colorful vehicle will make the panorama of our city even more attractive.

The Krakow tartan pattern, which was a gift from the partner city of Edinburgh, is presented on the Krakow tram. The idea to promote the new Krakow symbol is the result of a competition announced in October last year on Magiczny Kraków - official city website. David McGirr, the author of the winning idea to decorate one of the trams with the Krakow tartan motif explained that the tram is the best form of communication, understood both as urban, collective transport and as communication about the new symbol of Krakow.

By searching for the #scottishtartanforkrakow you may learn about the history of Krakow tartan as well as about the fact that everybody can use this pattern for non-commercial purposes, and in particular as a model of costumes, their elements, materials promoting Krakow or decorative motifs created by institutions and individuals. Similarly as in the case of using the Krakow logo, also here it is necessary to complete the relevant formalities, which are set out in the Public Information Bulletin, (e-Urząd, usługi-procedury, Kancelaria Prezydenta, procedura KP-4).

Please feel free to take a ride on the tartan tram and promote Krakow tartan by using its pattern!
