Pilgrims visit the Municipality of Krakow

On Thursday, July 28, Mayor Jacek Majchrowski met pilgrims from the Californian Lomita who attend the WYD.

Participation in the WYD is associated with a number of  catecheses, meetings and Masses including those most important with the presence of Pope Francis. Larger and smaller events make tight the agendas of the city authorities representatives and are a challenge to pilgrims who must get around in the unknown city. In this busy period it was possible, however, to organize a visit in the Municipality of a group of guests from Lomita, a town 20 miles south of Los Angeles. The meeting was organized at the request of Mayor Marek Waronek. The ancestors of the Mayor and of a few other members of the 40 people group came from Poland. The visitors were welcome by Mayor Jacek Majchrowski who stressed out how much he appreciated the visit and invited the guests to revisit Krakow and enjoy its charm. After the official welcome the group could learn about the city history and heritage presented by Stanisław Dziedzic, Director of  the Department of Culture and National Heritage and next listen to information about the more modern and touristic profile of the city given by Katarzyna Gądek, D-ty Director of the Department of Promotion and Tourism.

The pilgrims have stressed that though Lomita in California is located thousands of kilometers from Krakow and has a different potential (it has a population of ca. 21 thousand ) it is the religion that brings them close together. The meeting, held in the typical for WYD joyful and cordial atmosphere, ended in a photo session.
