Tartan for Kraków in the Scottish Register of Tartans
Scots have their tartan kilts and now Kraków – as the first city in Poland - has its own tartan design! Out of five possible designs Kraków citizens have selected one which best represents the character of our city.
Citizens of Edinburgh submitter 26 entries in a competition to design a tartan for Kraków. The winning design by Alex Imrie was voted for by the citizens of Krakow from a shortlist of 5 finalists. The design brings to mind associations with the city of Kraków and its spirit, as well as the long-standing friendship with Edinburgh and Scotland.
The competition was co-organised by the cities of Kraków and Edinburgh and the Scottish-Polish Cultural Association supported by the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh. The winning design has been woven into fabric and a film showing its production process will be screened during the Scottish Tartan Festival held in Mały Rynek in Krakow on 30 September 2017. On 1 October Lord Provost of Edinburgh will officially present the tartan to the Mayor of Krakow Jacek Majchrowski.
The tartan is now registered in the official Scottish Register of Tartans
