Łukasz Gibała Elected Mayor of Kraków

Łukasz Gibała has won the second round of the early mayoral election in Kraków, securing 62.12% of the vote. Monika Piątkowska received 37.88%. Voter turnout in Kraków was 44.27%, according to the National Electoral Commission.

A ceremonial session of the Kraków City Council was held at Kraków City Hall, during which Łukasz Gibała officially took office as Mayor of Kraków. The newly elected mayor received his certificate of election from Krzysztof Dyl, Chair of the Municipal Electoral Commission, and then took the oath of office, pledging to serve the public interest and promote the well-being of Kraków’s residents.

Stanisław Kracik, who had served as Acting Mayor, handed over the traditional symbols of the office to his successor: the ceremonial chain and the key to the city gates.

In his first address, Mayor Łukasz Gibała called on councillors to work together across political divisions. He identified several key challenges for the city government: developing a new economic strategy that takes into account the sustainable development of tourism, adopting a general spatial development plan, conducting a thorough audit, and improving public transport while maintaining budgetary discipline.

Born in Kraków, Łukasz Gibała holds a doctorate in the humanities. He is a former member of the Polish Parliament (Sejm) during its sixth and seventh terms, a long-serving city councillor and the leader of the Kraków dla Mieszkańców (Kraków for Residents) association. He now begins a new chapter in the history of local government in Kraków.
