Former Mayor of Kraków Jacek Majchrowski received the Grand Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta from the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda. The honor is one of the highest civilian distinctions conferred by the Polish state.
President Duda underlined the significance of Kraków’s transformation during Jacek Majchrowski’s time in office. He mentioned the dynamic development of public city transport and culture, which helped Kraków join the ranks of Europe’s top metropolises.
It is also certainly a recognition of Jacek Majchrowski’s contributions to international relations.
During his tenure, he received numerous distintions, including the Grand Decoration of Honour in Silver for Services to the Republic of Austria, the Grand Cross of the Order of Malta, the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary, the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Order of Saint-Charles (Monaco), and the Grand Decoration of Honour in Gold for Services to the State of Vienna. He was also named a Knight of the Legion of Honour by the French Republic.
The small, private ceremony took place in the Kraków branch of National Polish Bank with the participation of family members and few of his former collaborators.
