Newly appointed U.S. Consul General in Kraków Visits the Mayor

On September 8, 2025 Mayor Aleksander Miszalski met with Gretchen McKeever Cureton, the recently appointed U.S. Consul General in Kraków. This was her first, courtesy visit to the City Hall.

Gretchen Cureton assumed her post as Consul General in August 2025. Previously, she served at U.S. diplomatic missions in Nigeria, Italy, Afghanistan, Malaysia, and Germany, as well as at the Department of State in Washington, D.C., in the Bureau of Consular Affairs and the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs.

The discussion focused, among other topics, on the upcoming 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, which in 2026 will be one of the most important events for the Consulate. A key partner in these initiatives is the Kościuszko Mound Committee, which is already preparing the program in cooperation with other institutions.

Mayor Miszalski highlighted the importance of American businesses in Kraków and the region, noting the role of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in strengthening business ties. The Consul General expressed her full support for continuing these efforts, as well as for fostering academic exchange between universities in Kraków and the United States.
