Kraków joins the Femcities Network!

This September, Kraków has become part of Femcities, an international network of cities for gender equality and women's rights.

The Femcities network was initiated in 1997 by Vienna as a cooperation platform for central and eastern European cities. Its aim is to bring cities and regions together while building equal urban policies and advancing women's rights at the local level. Continuous exchange of good practice and experience supports members in developing equality projects and creating more sustainable, effective solutions.

The network brings together such cities as: Stuttgart, Belgrade, Frankfurt am Main, Graz, Helsinki, Leuven, Ljubljana, Luxembourg, Sarajevo or Zürich.

The Femcities conference is held annually and the reports presented provide a deeper understanding of issues such as political representation of women in local government, labour situation of women during COVID, or the female dimension of migration.

Femcities is coordinated by the Vienna City Hall’s department for gender equality.

Kraków joined the network as a result of the implementation of the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life, which defines the scope of cities' commitment to supporting gender equality. The Charter also obliges signatories to take participate in international projects in the field.
