Kraków in the Board of Directors of the League of Historical Cities

The 18th Conference of the League of Historical Cities was held in the Korean city of Andong on November 14-16, 2022, with the theme: “Future-Oriented Historical City Based on Community”. Kraków was represented by Katarzyna Piotrowska, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and National Heritage. During the conference, Mayor of Kraków Jacek Majchrowski was elected to the Board of Directors of the League of Historical Cities for the term of 2022-26.

Along with Kraków, the mayors of Gyeongju, Konya, Ljubljana, Shiraz, Bad Ischl and Xi'an are members of the Board of Directors.

Traditionally, at the end of the conference, the participants adopted a Statement of Peace and Solidarity, which is a timely message that the League of Historical Cities sends to the world as an appeal for peace and cooperation between cities of the world.

The League of Historical Cities was established by the participants of the 4th World Conference of Historical Cities in Kyoto in 1994. Kraków was among the 25 founders of the League. The organization, which is based in Kyoto, Japan, currently gathers 129 cities of the world.
