Description

The Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities (GNAFCC) of the World Health Organization (WHO) is an initiative that aims to inspire cities and communities to become more age-friendly and to be able to effectively face the challenges of an aging society. The official announcement of the City of Krakow's membership in the Network took place during the World Health Organization's consultation meeting on support for national programs for age-friendly cities and communities in the context of crisis situations, which took place on March 20-21, 2023 at the Jagiellonian University.

The WHO Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities, with over 1,600 members, plays an important role in promoting the creation of age-friendly environments and supporting the development and exchange of information between cities and municipalities. This organization has many partner programs around the world (also outside Poland), which function as cooperation networks, often acting as catalysts in better supporting Age-Friendly Cities and Communities, providing recommendations and support to cities and municipalities that want to become more resident-friendly without due to age. Activities are carried out taking into account the institutional conditions of a given country, the local context and existing systemic solutions, with the possibility of regular meetings and work in the local language.

Administrative support for WHO Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities is provided by International Federation on Ageing (IFA)
