Guests from distant Brazil at the Kraków city hall
On 8 June, Maria Klaman, Deputy Mayor of Kraków, met a Brazilian delegation led by Ana Paula Matos, Deputy Mayor of Salvador. The purpose of the visit was to promote religious tourism, an area of particular importance to both Kraków and Salvador, as well as to discuss the creative economy, social and educational projects.

During the meeting, which was also attended by a representative of the Tourism Department, discussions focused on, among other things, the possibility of cooperation between travel agencies in both cities – those that organise trips for Polish residents to Brazil and those that provide services for tourists from that country. The authorities of Salvador would like to encourage tourists from Poland to stay longer in their city and take advantage of its rich offer – not only for those seeking places of spiritual significance, but also for anyone interested in the cultural heritage of the former capital of Brazil. Salvador is located on the Atlantic Ocean and is popular among tourists who value relaxation in seaside resorts. However, the city has much more to offer, which the delegation from Salvador was happy to describe. Cooperation in this area will be implemented by the relevant tourist institutions of both cities.
From the perspective of Brazilians, Kraków is a city of deep spiritual and cultural significance, especially for the residents of Salvador, whose Catholic piety continues to shape their community identity and cultural fabric. The most famous saint from Salvador is Irmã Dulce, known as Sister Dulce, a nun from the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters, a guardian of the homeless and the poor.
During their visit to our country, the Guests visited, among other places, the Sanctuary of St. John Paul II, as well as the Family Home Museum of St. John Paul II in Wadowice and the Kraków Saltworks Museum in Wieliczka.
