Budapest is Kraków's twin city!

5 June 2017 has become another important date in the history of Kraków's cooperation with the Hungarian capital. On that day Mayor of Kraków Jacek Majchrowski and Lord Mayor of Budapest István Tarlós signed a twin cities cooperation agreement. The cities' relationship was based on a partnership agreement signed in 2005.

The twinning document was signed during an offical meeting with the Budapest delegation accompanying Istvan Tarlós: Head of the Department of Culture, Tourism, Sport, Education and Social Affairs Ms. Melinda Nagyné Varga and Head of International Affairs Office Ms. Adrienne Magyar. Consul General of Hungary in Krakow Ms. Adrienne Körmendy also joined the meeting.

After the meeting the delegation visited sites related to the Polish-Hungarian relationship and Pope John Paul II. István Tarlós paid his respects at the tomb of the Presidential Couple in the crypt of the Wawel Cathedral (in 2008 President Lech Kaczyński decorated Lord Mayor of Budapest with Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland). In the evening both mayors opened an exhibition at the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków On Common Path - Kraków and Budapest in the Middle Ages.
