Aleksander Janicki is one of the best known Polish specialists in the visual arts field, a recognised creator of multimedia installations, art actions and quasi-theatrical projects in Poland and abroad. At the invitation of Andrzej Wajda, he prepared a commemorative multimedia exhibition relating to the history of the Polish People's Republic – SocLand in Nowa Huta – as well as an exhibition marking the visit of the Emperor of Japan to Kraków – Hiroshige multimedialnie (2002). He is also involved in graphic art, photography, video art, graphic projection and stage design, as well as decoration of interiors and spaces.

This versatile artist likes to surprise his public and the final shape of his presentations is often until the last moment shrouded in secrecy. It is no different in the case of his latest project – Plaża / Beach, which will be presented in the Wyspiański Pavilion from the 9 October. As the author himself writes: “With the aim of raising the value of the city’s touristic attributes, in the very centre of Kraków, in the Wyspiański Pavilion, a beach will offered up for use. It is supposed to be available for all those eager to try it out – free of charge! Its attractive location and microclimate favourable to unwinding will no doubt be enjoyed by quite a few members of the public...” Aleksander Janicki only adds that in realising the project he used 15 tons of quartz sand with the addition of supplements (oxides) melted at a temperature of 1200-1300°C and in granular form...
