International Festival of Street Theaters – 29. ULICA
On 7th July at the Main Market Square Mayor of Krakow Jacek Majchrowski officially opened the International Festival of Street Theaters – 29. ULICA (29th Street). Festival takes place from the 7th to the 10th of July 2016. This exceptional event has been organized continuously since 1988 by the KTO Theater under the leadership of Jerzy Zoń.
Festival abounded in various large scale and small performances for adult audience and children, workshops and discussion panels. The festival’s audience estimated at the total of some 100 000 viewers gathered around the shows presented on the most beautiful open-air stages of Krakow: the Main Square, the Small Square, the Szczepanski Square and – for the first time – in the Podgorski Square.
The ambition of the 29th Street was to diagnose condition of the Polish art of street theatre. The leading motif of this year edition was “Polish Carnival”. During 4 days of the Festival was dominated by polish theater groups but foreign groups performed as well. We were able to watch the dancing Tango Sumo from France, the touching story told by Spanish theater Markeliñe and acrobatic art of French Tac O Tac. International theater group Serious Clowns led us through the magical world of children’s imagination.
