Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Poland visits Krakow
Although H.E. Karsten Klepsvik presented his credentials only in February 2013 he already paid his second visit to Krakow. The meeting with the Mayor of the City of Krakow on 23rd April was preceded by the Arctic Science Summit Week 2013 conference in which Ambassador Klepsvik participated.
At the conference Ambassador Klepsvik delivered a speech on political influences in Arctic research – the issue which for many years has been the Ambassador's professional interest. Before his appointment he worked as the Norwegian Commissioner to the International Whaling Commission in Norwegian Foreign Ministry. In 2006-2009 he performed the duties of Chairman of the Arctic Council.
Representatives of Norwegian Embassy in Poland, the Ambassador's wife as well as Mr. Marian Mikołajski, Honorary Consul of Norway in Krakow participated in the meeting with the Mayor of the City of Krakow. Relations between Krakow and Norwegian city Trondheim were discussed during this courtesy visit. In February 2012 a Letter of Intention concerning the cities' partnership was signed and the cooperation develops with financial support from Norway Grants. Several cultural institutions from Krakow, such as: the Krakow Opera, the Centre for Jewish Culture, Museum of Contemporary Art, International Cultural Centre are involved in cooperation with Norwegian partners.
This year representatives from Krakow are invited to visit Trondheim for Polish Days in Trondheim, Norwegian National Day and the 15th anniversary of diplomatic service that the Honorary Consul of Poland in Norway Mr. Harald Lydersen is going to celebrate in May.
