On 29 April 2013 Mr. Reinhold Lopatka paid a one day visit to Krakow as a guest speaker of the university cycle Jagiellonian Diplomatic Encounters. One of the most important issues discussed was the upcoming closing of the General Consulate of Austria in Krakow. Mr. Reinhold Lopatka confirmed that for financial reasons the Consulate in Krakow is to be closed this year, similarly to some Austrian Consulates in other European cities, such as in Frankfurt on the Main or Zurich. Mayor Jacek Majchrowski emphacized the Consulate's vital role in fostering of economic and cultural cooperation between our city and the Republic of Austria. He also expressed his gratitude for the commitment of each Consul General on diplomatic mission in Krakow and concluded that the closed consulate will be a loss both to our city and its region.
