Intercultural Cities programme
Intercultural Cities programme (ICC) aims at better integration of foreigners. Migration and actions taken to promote inclusion of national and ethnic minorities are the challenges faced by most of European states and the cities play major role in developing policies that turn interculturality into social development factor. ICC is a joint initiative between the Council of Europe and European Commission started in 2008. The main goal of the programme is to strengthen and support intercultural integration at local level, based on diversity, equality and cohesion, according to the the Council of Europe standards. The programme is currently being implemented in over 163 cities in Europe and beyond among others in Australia, Canada, Japan, Israel, Mexico, Morocco and USA. Kraków joined the Intercultural Cities programme in December 2020 as a 144th city. Intercultural Cities programme is coordinated by the Anti-discrimination Cooperation Unit of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. Once a year cities are taking part in ICC coordinators meeting.
