Krakow’s Papal Thesaurus. New exhibition for WYD 2016
“7+1+1 - Krakow’s Papal Thesaurus” is an exhibition presenting photographs taken during papal visits in our City. It was prepared by the Krakow Municipality – Mayor’s Office on the occasion of World Youth Days 2016 and will be presented in front of the Stanisław Wyspiański Pavilion at Plac Wszystkich Świętych until 20th August.
Three Popes have visited Krakow over the last 37 years. Nine papal visits took place in that period. We hosted John Paul II seven times, Benedict XVI visited Krakow in 2006 and Pope Francis will be our guest this year during WYD 2016.
The name of the exhibition “7+1+1” refers to the number of Papal visits in Krakow.
It shows the photos by Wiesław Majka from Mayor’s Office archives and by Arturo Mari (L’Osservatore Romano) from the private collection of Tadeusz Kołaczyk, Chairman in the first term of the Krakow City Council. The exhibition was designed by Jakub Lorek.
