Kraków represented at Eurocities meeting
The European Mayors Summit, organized by Eurocities, was held in Strasbourg on October 21-22. The main purpose of the summit was to draw attention to the need for greater direct cooperation between the European Union and cities. Kraków was represented by deputy mayor Łukasz Sęk.
It is the cities that are responsible for the introduction and implementation of many European policies, so funds should be directed to a greater extent to them. This would reduce the dependence of obtaining European funds on the current political situation in the country or region. This need is increasingly evident and present in European discussions. The goal of the Eurocities organization is to apply for this to be reflected in the future budget of the European Union.
Presidents and mayors also had the opportunity to persuade MEPs to such cooperation. The meeting was also attended by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. During the working meetings, deputy mayor Lukasz Sęk joined the talks of the team for innovation and the fight against digital exclusion. These topics are particularly important for Kraków.
The summit was also an opportunity to meet and discuss cooperation with representatives of Kraków's partner cities, including Bordeaux, Florence, Leipzig and Lviv. Kraków will continue to build its brand on the international stage and use its position to fight for local governments.
Poland was also represented in Strasbourg by mayor of Gdańsk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, deputy mayor of Łódź Adam Pustelnik, and deputy mayor of Poznań Mariusz Wisniewski.
